Waldorf Astoria - Luxury in Downtown Chicago
It seems like the cold is finally leaving and summer weather is starting to show up here in Chicago. I may be biased, but I LOVE summers in Chicago. The flowers are blooming, the lake looks beautiful, and there is always some sort of event going on somewhere. It is the perfect time to visit the windy city!
In honor of that, I am going to spend some time highlighting some of my favorite Virtuoso properties here. Starting with the beautiful Waldorf Astoria.
Located in the gorgeous Gold Coast neighborhood, the hotel has a total of 214 rooms, and 150 of those are suites. The hotel was designed by a woman, which instantly made my brain go wild because #girlpower! It has a very Parisian vibe all around it, and it is the only hotel in Chicago to have a private courtyard!
All of their suites have a fire place, a balcony, and a queen pull out sleeper sofa. At the moment, the hotel is going through some renovation. One of their many projects is to completely change out the furniture in their suites and give them a more modern look.
Let’s go through some of the rooms that I got to see
Standard King
This is their most basic room, it has floor to ceiling windows that allow for a lot of natural light to come in. It has glass doors for the shower and a spacious bathroom. Certainly a wonderful space if you’re in for a quick stop in the city.
Premier Terrace King
This room is basically a suite. It is 400 square feet and just like any other suite, it has a private fire place and a private terrace. If you happen to be visiting Chicago on a work trip, this is an excellent room for that purpose because you will have your own executive desk to work at. It also comes with a private bar and mini fridge, and the bathroom is just a gorgeous and spacious as that of any other suite.
Deluxe One Bedroom Suite
This beautiful suite comes with an additional closet space, a powder room, and a pull out sofa. This is an excellent choice for families since it does have extra room for more people. Just like any other suite, it also comes with a mini fridge and a private bar. I loved this room and I thought it was so special precisely because it could easily accommodate a family of four or less without really compromising any of the special touches that make the hotel great, such as the beautiful marble bathtub or the fire place.
The hotel also has a spa that is home to thirteen different treatment rooms, a nail salon, a terrace, two couples massage rooms, a jacuzzi, and a steam room. Their fitness center is complementary to all guests and it consists of their pool, a private Pilates studio (this hotel is the only one in Chicago to have this feature), and a weight room with different weight and cardio machines, including a few Peloton bikes!
As I spoke to the hotel manager, one of the things that impressed me about the property was their commitment towards the small details that make a stay special. Everything in their rooms is designed to make you feel at home, and they are willing to make any accommodations necessary.
One thing that I always ask about is the restaurant menu. I have a health condition that requires me to abstain from eating gluten, dairy, soy, processed sugars, and alcohol (oh yeah, eating out with me is SUPER fun - not!). When I sat down for lunch at the restaurant and told them my needs, they immediately sprung into action and were able to modify my meal. That was huge for me as an advisor, because now I know that if needed, they’d do the exact same thing for my clients.
Overall, I was very impressed with everything that I saw at this hotel and I would recommend it to any client looking for a home away from home.
